This is How You Work With LLMs
With Sample Prompts
A chef has a recipe, a teacher has a book, and any technician has a manual. Any profession needs a reference. And this is your version, your very own “how-to” guide in working with LLMs better.
Welcome to The AI StandUp! We aim to give you bite-size AI news, with practical and actionable tips on how you can leverage AI better not only for your business, but also in your day-to-day activities. This edition will talk specifically about the big three: OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, and Google Gemini and some example prompts you can use at the end.
💡AI TRIVIA
Journalism has changed much lately, thanks to the rise of Large Language Models (LLMs). These AI models, powered by huge amounts of data and smart language tech, are changing how we write, share, and check news. Let's explore how LLMs are shaking up news writing and fact-checking and what this means for journalism's future.
📈 AI See You: Trends and News
OpenAI’s ChatGPT:
A recent study highlights how students view ChatGPT as a helpful buddy in boosting their English writing skills. It's got a knack for ironing out grammar wrinkles and sparking fresh content ideas. This shows just how much potential it has in education. (Zebua & Katemba, 2024).
Anthropic’s Claude:
Imagine Claude teaming up with Microsoft Copilot to lend a hand in schools and libraries. They're the go-to helpers for finding and organizing information. But, there are still bumps in the road, like data bias and privacy, to tackle. (Adetayo et al., 2024).
Google Gemini:
Google's Gemini is set to shake things up in the information world by offering personalized, context-aware suggestions. It's like having a smart assistant that could transform customer service and make finding information a breeze. (Saeidnia, 2023)
🛠️ Leveraging AI in Your Business: Communicating with LLMs Better
Provide Context
To get the best answers from AI, make sure you feed it updated and well-organized info. When you need to compare things, set clear rules first. Giving AI specific, clear data helps turn boring numbers into useful insights. This is super handy when you're looking at numbers, trends, or patterns. It lets AI create results that can guide business plans or research findings.
Be Specific
When chatting with AI, spell out exactly how you'd like the reply to look. Do you want a detailed rundown, a quick recap, bullet points, or a story-like format? Let the AI know your preference so it can shape its answer just for you.
Mention your choices for tone and style, or if you'd like things like headings included. By setting clear expectations, you help the AI give you information that perfectly matches what you're aiming for.
🔧 AI Tools Spotlight
ChatGPT’s CustomGPT:
Custom GPTs are like smart helpers in generative AI, training models to handle specific, complex tasks. Think of them as skilled interns ready to follow and execute your instructions accurately.
Here's why they're better than simple prompts:
Handling Multiple Steps: They manage multi-step tasks well, using background info to complete detailed processes. Need a marketing report? A Custom GPT can gather, analyze, and compile data into one document.
Interactive Dialogues: These AI can ask for clarification or more details during tasks, ensuring accuracy. This makes their work precise and adaptable.
Versatile Tasks: Custom GPTs handle a range of tasks, from automating routines to creating content. They can boost marketing activities by enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.
Claude’s Projects:
Projects are your personal workspace hubs! On both Claude Pro and Claude for Work, you get separate chat histories and knowledge bases. Upload files, add context, and have focused chats with Claude.
Main Features:
Project Knowledge
Projects let you upload docs, text, code, and more for richer conversations. Guide Claude with custom instructions, like using a formal tone or role-specific responses.
Collaboration (Claude for Work only)
Share projects with teammates! Collaborate by adding files and joining chats, boosting teamwork and sharing knowledge.
Gemini’s Mobile-Readiness
Gemini models do more than handle text—they process various media types. Trained on public, proprietary, and licensed content, they understand audio, images, and videos. Exposure to diverse code and multilingual text gives them a broad skill set.
These models aren't just good at one thing. They can translate, analyze images, sort audio, and even write code. Their wide-ranging training opens up countless uses across many industries.
Gemini's strength comes from using diverse sources, not just common data. This broad input equips them to handle information accurately and efficiently in any format.
💡 Pro Tip of the Day
Sample Prompts:
Prompt that gives maximum context:
1.) “Take a look at the sales data from the first quarter of 2024 in the attached PDF. I need a quick overview highlighting our top-selling product, the overall sales trend, and any standout customer buying patterns.
The PDF gives you the monthly sales numbers for Product A, Product B, and Product C. Once you've reviewed the info, please sum up your findings in a short paragraph that's ready for a business meeting. Point out any big jumps or drops in sales and share thoughts on what's driving these changes.”
Prompt that tells the LLM what it should do:
2.) “Create an insightful rundown of the major moments in software development history. Present it as a timeline with bullet points. Each bullet should mention the year, the key event, and a short note on its impact. Start with the 1980s. Keep it concise with just ten important milestones.”
Prompt that uses a frame of reference:
3.) Imagine you are a seasoned marketing consultant. Please draft an email to a new startup client outlining three digital marketing strategies tailored for their upcoming product launch (see attached PDF for details).
Include key performance indicators (KPIs) for each strategy that will help track their campaign’s success. Ensure the tone is encouraging and professional, imparting confidence in your expertise.
